Sustainability
At The Hygge Company, we are deeply committed to sustainability and have integrated several eco-friendly initiatives into our business model. We carefully consider the environmental impact of every aspect of our service, ensuring that we contribute positively to the preservation of nature.
1. Packaging
All our packaging is thoughtfully sourced to be environmentally friendly. We use shipping boxes made from recycled corrugated cardboard, ensuring durability while minimizing waste.
Our plant-based poly mailing bags are crafted from sugarcane, a carbon-negative material that absorbs more carbon during growth than is emitted during production. These bags are also 100% recyclable at recycling centers and most supermarkets.
To package your items with care, we use UK-designed and handmade tissue paper. Beyond its elegant design, it is eco-friendly, 100% recyclable, compostable, and made from recycled materials. Printed with soy-based inks, it is free from acid, sulphur, and lignin, making it a sustainable choice from production to disposal.
2. Products/Orders
We are highly selective in the products we source, prioritising natural and sustainable materials wherever possible.
As part of our commitment to supporting biodiversity, every order includes a complimentary pack of wildflower seeds for you to plant and nurture.
Wildflowers and wildflower-rich habitats play a crucial role in sustaining insects and other wildlife. Pollinators such as bees, butterflies, moths, flies, and wasps depend on wildflowers as a vital food source. In turn, 60 to 80 percent of the world’s flowering plant species, including many essential food crops, rely on these pollinators. Additionally, insects that feed on wildflowers provide nourishment for other wildlife and contribute to natural pest control by helping to manage crop-damaging pests like aphids.
It’s a mutually beneficial relationship that sustains both nature and humanity—the more wildflowers we cultivate, the greater the diversity of pollinators they support, ultimately leading to healthier ecosystems and more abundant crops.
Beyond their role in supporting biodiversity, wildflowers also contribute to soil stability, helping to prevent erosion by anchoring the soil, even in heavy rainfall. Additionally, their impact on human well-being is profound. As highlighted by the Royal Botanical Gardens, Kew, spending time in wild, natural surroundings is a proven way to reduce stress and promote overall mental and emotional health.
3. Planet - Shopify's sustainable app
We are proud to partner with Planet, a program dedicated to offsetting shipping emissions and actively removing carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. Through this initiative, a percentage of our sales supports innovative companies and funds cutting-edge carbon removal projects with the potential to combat and even reverse climate change. This commitment aligns with our broader mission to operate sustainably and contribute to a healthier planet for future generations.
